Mike Gravel is a candidate in the 2020 presidential Election. He announced his candidacy on April 4, 2019.
Gravel served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1963-67, where he served as speaker of the house for two years. In 1968 he was elected to the U.S. Senate where he served two terms. During his time in Senate he was a member of the Interior and Insular Affairs Committee, the Public Works Committee, the Select Committee on Small Business, the Public Works Committee, the Finance Committee and the Joint Committee on Congressional Operations. He also chaired the Public Works Committee’s Public Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee, the Water Resources Subcommittee, and the Environmental Resources Subcommittee, and the Finance Committee’s Energy and Foundations Subcommittee. Finally, he was also a member of the Special Committee to Study Secret and Confidential Government Documents. Since the end of his time in office, in 1980, Gravel has continued to work on political issues in a variety of contexts, including campaigning for constitutional amendments.
