Center for Inquiry

The Center for Inquiry (CFI) is a nonprofit educational, advocacy, and research organization headquartered in Amherst, New York, with executive offices in Washington, D.C. Founded by Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, James Randi, Paul Kurtz and other groundbreaking thinkers, CFI promotes reason, science, and secularism. We advocate for the separation of church and state, the rights of atheists and the nonreligious in the United States and around the world, and the end of pseudoscience wherever it arises. CFI is the proud home of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason & Science, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, and the Council for Secular Humanism. Uniquely CFI combines advocacy on behalf of scientific skepticism with the promotion of a secular society.

CFI lobbies against all forms of nonsense beliefs and pseudoscience. CFI opposes the anti-vax lobby, and all non-science-based medicine, including homeopathy and naturopathy. CFI opposes religious privilege and fights the incursion of religious dogma into public policy. CFI affirmatively promotes church-state separation and the equal rights of atheists and the nonreligious. CFI has embarked on a nationwide effort to change state law to allow Secular Celebrants to solemnize marriages as religious leaders may do.
