Tom Steyer is a candidate in the 2020 presidential election. He announced his candidacy on July 9, 2019.
Steyer began his career in finance, working for Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and on the executive committee for Hellman & Friedman, a San Francisco based private equity firm. Finally, he founded Farallon Capitol in 1986, which he left in 2012. He has also been a longtime Democratic Party activist and fundraiser.
