Senator Cory Booker is a democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential election. He announced his candidacy on February 1, 2019.
Booker began his career as an attorney for the Urban Justice Center in New York and served on the Newark City Council from 1998-2002. He was then elected and served as the mayor of Newark from 2006-2013. In 2013, Booker won a special election to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate, and was later re-elected to a full six year term. In the Senate, he is a member of the Committee on Environment and Public Works, the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Committee on the Judiciary. He is also ranking member on the Committee on Foreign Relations’ Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy. He was previously a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and ranking member of the subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety and Security.
