Governor Jay Inslee is a candidate in the 2020 presidential election. He announced his candidacy on March 1, 2019.
Inslee began his political career serving in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1989-1993. He then served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993-1995 and again from 1999-2012. In the interim, he was appointed regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Clinton administration. In the U.S. House, he was a member of the Committee on Agriculture, and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology from 1995-1993, and the Committee on Energy and Commerce from 1999-2012. In 2012, he was elected Washington State governor. He is currently serving his second term.
