Founded in 1941, the American Humanist Association (AHA) is the oldest and largest organization advancing humanist values in the United States. Humanism is an outlook on life that focuses on human potential and goodness within all of us. We are a community of activists and every day people who aspire to the greater good without the need for theism to guide us. In other words, humanism is the understanding that we can be good without a god. The AHA has over 34,000 members and supporters, and over 240 local chapter groups across the country.
The AHA strives to bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life, by providing legal assistance to defend the constitutional rights of secular and religious minorities; lobbying Congress on church-state separation and other issues; and supporting a grassroots network of local groups that engage in social activism, build awareness of humanism, and create community building events.
