Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA)

Congresswoman Brownley grew up in Virginia and graduated from George Washington University with a political science degree and from American University with a masters in business administration. Brownley served on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education from 1994 to 2006. In 2006 she ran for and won a seat in the California State Assembly for the 41st District. She served three terms.
In 2012 Congresswoman Brownley defeated Republican Tony Strickland in the race for the 26th House District seat which she has held since then. Brownley supports the DREAM Act, the Affordable Care Act, and same-sex marriage. She has advocated increased insurance company regulation, job training funds, toxic cleanup, and increased public education funding. Brownley sits on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
