Another Ten Commandments monument is stirring up controversy, this time in the southern New Mexico city of Hobbs.
The monument sits outside City Hall and activists advocating for religious freedom want it taken down. According to the Hobbs News-Sun, members of the Freedom from Religion Foundation asked the Hobbs City Commission at a recent meeting, to remove the monument.
City attorney Mike Stone said “We will evaluate the complaints in an appropriate manner.”
Last month, the same group voiced opposition to a Ten Commandments monument in front of Santa Fe’s fire station No. 3. Activists say it needs to be removed from city property. Opponents argue that freedom of religion should allow it to remain there.
