The inclusion of the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) and the Healthcare Sharing Ministry Tax Parity Act would do irrevocable harm to the separation of church and should not be included in the Ways and Means reconciliation package. ECCA would provide tax credits to fund religious and private schools, diverting federal funds that could be used for public education, public safety, or any other public purpose. The Healthcare Sharing Ministry Tax Parity Act would benefit healthcare clubs that can (and do) deny coverage based on religious beliefs.
The Secular Coalition for America, on behalf of its twenty member organizations strongly urge Ways and Means Members to remove those two bills from the Ways and Means House Tax Bill.
