Mayor Bill De Blasio on Religious Exemptions for Healthcare

On June 24, 2019, De Blasio spoke at a Planned Parenthood Presidential Forum. During the event he spoke about the necessity to remove the “Conscience Care rule” which would allow healthcare providers to opt out of providing services, ranging from performing abortions to filling prescriptions that violate their moral or religious beliefs.

“[We need to] get rid of the quote unquote conscience rule which has nothing to do with conscience. Has nothing to do with conscience. It’s un-American to say people can be deprived their rights just ’cause you feel like it. Didn’t we fight that battle in South Carolina at lunch counters and college campuses and on the streets? You don’t get to turn someone away just cause you feel like it in America.”
