President Trump has expressed his support for the Global Gag Rule, which bans federal funding for non-governmental organizations that provide abortion counseling or referrals, advocate to decriminalize abortion, or expand abortion services. Trump reinstated the policy which had been rescinded by President Obama on January 23, 2017 in one of his first acts as president. Trump further expanded the gag rule to also prohibit “gagged” organizations from providing funding to groups that provide abortions, regardless of whether those organizations receive federal aid or not.
