Aderholt Amendment Policy Brief

The Aderholt Amendment would have allowed adoption centers receiving federal funding to discriminate on the basis of religion. This would mean that they could turn away an LGBT couple, an interfaith couple, or an atheist couple who are otherwise qualified and willing to provide a loving home — all while receiving taxpayer dollars. While the Amendment was defeated in 2018, we expect it to make comeback in 2019 and will continue to fight back to ensure it never becomes law.
