Almost Half of Alabama Child Care Facilities Have Religious Exemptions From Health/Safety Standards

A new report by the Alabama Department of Human Resources found that 956 of Alabama’s 1,938 child care facilities are operating with a religious exemption from license requirements. That same report found 15,156 total health and safety violations in child care facilities receiving federal funding, some of which were operating without a license.

Religious exemptions from license requirements needlessly endanger children. All childcare facilities, especially those receiving federal funding, should be held to the same health and safety standards.
