Secular Coalition Welcomes Foundation Beyond Belief As A Member Organization

Washington, D.C.-- Today, the Secular Coalition for America released a statement announcing that Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB) will become its landmark nineteenth voting member organization. Foundation Beyond Belief's mission is to unite the humanist community in volunteer and charitable efforts, and to advocate for compassionate action throughout the world.

"We are thrilled to have Foundation Beyond Belief join us as a member organization," said Larry T. Decker, Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America. "Tens of millions of Americans are living without religion and feel moved by their secular values to make a positive impact in the world. We are grateful that Foundation Beyond Belief exists to provide nontheists a means to participate in charitable giving and volunteer opportunities that they can trust to be secular, evidence-based, and impactful. Foundation Beyond Belief serves a crucial role in the growing secular community and we are proud to have them join us as an official member organization."

Established in 2009, Foundation Beyond Belief was founded to provide a community for humanists to give to charities that reflect their values and worldview. To date, Foundation Beyond Belief has given over $2.5 million in grants to secular and impactful beneficiaries working on humanitarian causes around the world.

In addition to promoting charitable giving, Foundation Beyond Belief has also established a growing network of volunteers that provide support to those in need in their local communities. Their Beyond Belief Network has over 125 local groups who together, have committed over 100,000 hours of service to organizations focusing on education, human rights, poverty abatement, and clean water projects around the United States.

Foundation Beyond Belief provides financial support and volunteer hours to communities impacted by natural disasters through their Humanist Disaster Recovery program. Later this month, volunteers will be deployed to Houston to rebuild homes that were damaged by Hurricane Harvey.

"Foundation Beyond Belief reflects a community of people who believe that human beings are responsible for making this world a better place than we found it, because there is no supernatural force or being out there to provide for us," said Noelle George, Executive Director of Foundation Beyond Belief. "We are in the midst of a turning point in our nation's history and our actions today will help shape the country we live in tomorrow. Foundation Beyond Belief has never been and will never be an organization content with sitting on the sidelines. Joining the Secular Coalition for America unites our humanitarian actions and their political advocacy in order to build a government that reflects our values, and is as committed to improving the world as we are."
