Religion in the Military

Atheists and others with no religious affiliation make up 21% of the U.S. Armed Forces, and yet they suffer harassment, discrimination and proselytizing in a military increasingly dominated by a powerful minority of evangelical Christians. The Secular Coalition for America calls for nontheistic service personnel to be extended the same institutional protections and support that traditional faith groups enjoy.

RES. 789) introduced in the U.S. House by Stephen Fincher (TN-8) that attempts to “reaffirm the importance of religion in the lives of United States citizens” and makes reference to the country’s “Judeo-Christian heritage.”
