Arizona Secular Group Joins Secular Coalition for America as First State Affiliate

Historic Kick-Off Event October 12

The movement for a more reasoned and secular America that honors our founding principles takes a major step forward as the Secular Coalition for America welcomes its first State Affiliate: the Secular Coalition for Arizona. The Secular Coalition for America advocates for separation of church and state and is the national lobbying organization representing the interests of Secular Americans -- atheists, agnostics, humanists, and other nontheists -- in our nation's capital.

On Tuesday, October 12, Secular Coalition for America Executive Director Sean Faircloth and Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema will join the Secular Coalition for Arizona in Scottsdale to commemorate this milestone. The Secular Coalition for Arizona will be the first lobbying and advocacy organization for Secular Americans in Arizona's history.

"The founding of this new organization represents the dawn of an exciting new effort to establish Secular Coalition state affiliates in all fifty states and the District of Columbia, giving activists the chance to advance secular values at all levels of government," said Sean Faircloth. "We are thrilled to welcome Secular Coalition for Arizona into our growing family."

Said Matt Schoenley, Chair and Executive Director of Secular Coalition for Arizona, "When Arizonans weren't looking, the religious right took over the Arizona State Capital, and with that, a dismantling of the rights of all Arizonans, including nontheists. The Secular Coalition for Arizona plans to take the voice of nontheists to the State Legislature."
