August 5th- The Secular Coalition for America, along with thirty-five other international and domestic advocacy groups, has sent letters to the Senate asking Senators to support an amendment included in the FY 2010 State Department, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations bill to permanently protect international family planning providers from the egregious Global Gag Rule. September 14- The Secular Coalition for America has submitted written testimony for a September 16th hearing on the reauthorization of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. The Secular Coalition thinks it is unconstitutional for federal tax dollars to be funnelled to D.C. schools like the Ambassador Baptist Church Christian School, Calvary Christian Academy First Rock Baptist Christian Church School, Muhammad University of Islam, Clara Muhammad School and Dupont Park Seventh-day Adventist School. The nontheistic movement expanded its unified front this week as American Atheists joined the Secular Coalition for America. Their application to become a member was unanimously approved on Sunday June 14th. Along with the recent addition of Camp Quest in January 2009, this brings the number of groups in the Secular Coalition to ten.
