SCA Announces 2011 Fall Internship Program
The Secular Coalition for America (SCA) is pleased to offer up to two paid part-time internship positions for fall 2011. SCA is seeking highly motivated undergraduate junior- or senior-level students with a demonstrated interest in being active in the nontheistic movement. The students must live and attend school within the District of Columbia metro area—close enough to travel to the SCA office, which is in downtown Washington, D.C., to work several times a week.
SCA is a 501(c)4 advocacy organization whose purpose is to advocate for the separation of church and state and to amplify the diverse and growing voice of the nontheistic community in the United States. Our staff lobbies U.S. Congress and the executive branch about issues of special concern to our constituency. To learn more about SCA, visit www.secular.org.
The internship will provide activities and opportunities to learn about, assist with, and work with the four main areas of SCA’s office: lobbying and advocacy, grassroots and outreach, development and fundraising, and media relations and social media networking.
Each internship will be a part-time 12-week program and will run from Monday, August 29, 2011, through Friday, November 18, 2011. Each internship will pay $12/hour, before taxes, with a minimum of 10 hours required per week and a maximum of 20 hours paid a week. Each intern will be provided with a one-time transportation stipend of $500 in the form of a Metro SmarTrip card. Interns must be able to complete their internship hours during regular work hours: generally Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be expected.
Once a student is chosen for the SCA internship, if he or she wishes to receive academic credit for the internship rather than be paid, the student must make arrangements with his or her academic institution to qualify the SCA internship for such credit. SCA will cooperate fully in any process but will not fundamentally change its internship program to accommodate an academic requirement.
Any student receiving academic credit is ineligible to be paid for the internship and to receive the transportation stipend.
