About the 50 State Program

Despite the fact that there are tens of millions of nontheistic Americans, we remain one of the most marginalized groups in the country.  The Secular Coalition for America is working to make sure that we are heard on Capitol Hill.  We can’t do it alone.  Your voice is important to get real change in Washington and in state capitols all over the country.  Your congressional representatives need to know that secular Americans are an important part of their constituency.  And even as we fight in DC against religious privileging on a federal level, some of the most egregious violations of our rights as nontheists are being promoted and passed at a state level.

Over the next few years, the Secular Coalition will work to have volunteer State Coordinators in all 50 states (and the District of Columbia).  Our State Coordinators will work with existing local groups and other interested individuals to help empower nontheists all over the country to speak out and make sure that their voice is hear by their elected officials, by organizing lobbying training and lobbying actions, and helping to track legislative actions on a state level that impact secular issues.

How to Get Involved

Due to overwhelming demand, as well as our need to make sure that our State Coordinators received the support they need to be successful, we are not accepting new applications for State Coordinators at this time.  However, we strongly recommend that individuals who are interested in serving as State Coordinators get involved in existing local secular organizations.  We will announce when we are accepting applications again. If you have questions or thoughts, please contact kelly@secular.org.

You can still take action—sign up for our Action Alerts to get updates and information on key issues and information on how you can make a difference both federally and in your state.
